As every year, the five year olds have the opportunity of going to the Library to choose a book to take home.
This year this activity will be taking place every Friday. Each group goes together with their teacher, they listen to a special story read by a mother or by the teacher and then they choose a book to take home. They are very proud of their choice and wait anxiously for someone to read them the book. It is a very special time shared with the family.
In order to start the Library we decided to put on a show; this time the five year old teachers dramatized a story called “The Enormous Turnip”. As a turnip is a vegetable children are not used to eat regularly, we changed the title and the story was called “The Enormous Carrot”. This is about an old man who plants some carrot seeds, waters them and one seed grows and grows so much that it turns into an ENORMOUS carrot. So the man wants to harvest it but he cannot pull it out alone, therefore he needs someone to help him. His wife helps and the story goes on with different characters (a girl, a boy, a dog, a cat and a mouse) helping the old man to pull out the enormous carrot. They pull and pull and pull until finally out comes the enormous carrot and they all go to the old man's house to have carrot for dinner.
This story taught the children about the importance of team work, and helping one another to comply with a desired task.
The children and the teachers had great fun!!! After the show they all shared carrot cake in the classroom. The cake was not only healthy but also delicious!
We hope you enjoy the photos!!
