Before the outing we investigated about several african animals by looking at books, watching short videos, learning songs with relevant facts, observing toy animals. We talked about which were our favourite and would like to see at the zoo.
The visit to the zoo provided the children the chance to reinforce what they had learnt as well as learning new things. They saw giraffes, zebras, elephants lions, monkeys, hippopotamus, hyenas, antelopes, camels, ostriches, meerkats, etc. But, the one they all liked best was the rhinoceros, because it reminded them of the song they had learnt “The Rhino Song”.
They learnt that these animals were born at the Zoo and the Zoo does not buy animals anymore. Wild animals should live in their natural habitat.
