Every year during the Kindergarten Concert there is a wonderful group of mothers in charge of selling food and beverages to the families who come to watch the show. There is a specific goal for this tuck shop, which is to raise money for our Community Service projects, helping both María Santísima de la Luz kindergarten and the school in Palominos, Tucumán. This time the purpose was to provide the Kindergartens with learning material such as maths games, puzzles, plastic blocks and material for the Dramatization Centre.
As the teachers from María Santísima were coming to bring a lovely surprise for our children to celebrate Spring Day, we took profit of their visit and asked all our preschoolers to make a big circle in our Multipurpose hall in order to receive the lovely flowers made with sweets. They also prepared an interesting newspaper with many thank you notes for all our community, specially thanking us for all the books and furniture that were bought and for all the clothes that were donated. They specially mentioned that their children were very happy as, due to the warm clothes received, they were not cold this winter.
Before we started with the activity the Whales, Pandas and Tigers' teachers told them about the money that was raised during the Concert shows and what was going to happen with it.
The school supplier was asked to bring an assorted selection of material for different ages 3 to 5. Our preschoolers were excited with all the new games that were exhibited, however this time the material was not for them.
They were divided in groups and had the opportunity of choosing a game for their friends from María Santísima. They did so with such enthusiasm and pride! It was a difficult chore to choose something new for others, however they all knew the purpose of the activity. It was a touching scene to see young children developing social responsibility and extremely rewarding for them and for us as teachers.
Some said “I know this game” or “we have it in the classroom” or "I have played with this at a friend's house". Whilst this went on, many of our children asked questions to Romina and Laura (teachers from María Santísima) about the clothes they had collected in the campaign that took place in May. They explained that their children were really overwhelmed at their generosity and kindness in giving away what they were not wearing any longer.
This was a great experience for all!
Once again we would like to thank all the families who worked so hard in helping us to fulfil our project with such an extraordinary outcome!!!
