Claudio, is an artist who dedicates most of his time painting what he sees, the way he sees things and tries to imitate the spontaneous style of young children who just express themselves without feeling limited by mere technique.
Pandas, Tigers and Whales were told about his visit and their teachers showed them some of his paintings. Everybody was really very excited upon his arrival.
As soon as he arrived, the children got together and started asking him questions, mainly based on what they had seen. They also shared the names of all the artists they had learnt about so far.
These are some of the questions they asked him ”Do you like cows and animals?”, “How did you become an artist?" “How old were you when you started painting?" “Do you paint the things as you see them, with the same colours?" “How do you paint?" “Have you ever painted on a wall?" “How many days do you need to finish a painting?" “Who is your favourite artist?"”Do you spend a lot of time painting or watching television?" Do you like colours?" “Where do you sell them?" “How much do they cost?”. Their final comment was “How nice you paint!”
These were some of his answers: “I have always liked painting, since I was a little boy just like you. I sell my paintings in different galleries where I exhibit what I do. I love nature and I care for it. It is very important to respect our planet and look after it. I don't watch a lot of television, I spend my days working and painting. I am also an engineer. I love reading and I am always learning by reading new things. It is very important to read and learn from what you read. I have learnt how to paint on my own, by reading and looking how others painted. My favourite artists are Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse and Milo Lockett.
He was very enthused and happy to be around us. We asked him if he could paint something for us and he did. Children were amazed at the way he drew and painted. We had a unique experience. We learnt that he also paints in hospitals and schools trying to make people and children in one way or another happy.
We would like to specially thank Miss Gaby who made all the necessary arrangements for us to have him at school.
Through Art children learn how to think creatively with an open mind. They learn to observe, describe, analyze and interpret. They can express their feelings with or without words.
Children can blossom and excel in the arts. It builds confidence because there is not one right way to make art, every child can feel pride in his or her original artistic creation.
