2012 Dream Team
New Head Girl & Boy and a team of Prefects are ready for the work and fun of a full year ahead!

Assembly on Wednesday, March 21st was the ocassion to present our 2012 Prefects and Head Girl and Boy.

We share here with you our Head Girl's Welcome Speech. This is what Paulina said to her fellow students:

And Head Boy Tomás also had words of encouragement:

To start off, welcome everyone to another start of another school year. It may surprise some of you the way time passes by, especially during a holiday spent in order to go over another school year yet again, but for us in Year 12, this is the last time we will ever sit through one of these ceremonies, and the last time we'll face the start of a new school year.

Anyway, I’m not trying to portray school as an arduous duty we have to face. I believe quite the opposite in fact; I believe that one can make one of the best years of his life from those spent in school. It just needs to be spent properly, and I strongly believe there is one way to do so and that is by being no other than yourself and yourself only.

When I say this, I think of 3 steps one should follow in order to being his or herself. The first one is to believe in yourself, picture the kind of person you'd like to be, the kind you want to be, the one you'll be happy being. Set your goals, acknowledge the interests, beliefs, principles and passions your goals are based on and don’t ever, ever let them go no matter what others think of them.

Then, quoting a worldwide recognized clothing line, just do it, become yourself. Fight for what you believe, stand up to anything that stumbles in your way to getting to become that person you want to be: yourself. And as our headmaster Gabriel said on last years graduation ceremony "take no intermediate steps, go straight to your goal”.

Then all what’s left is to just be yourself, enjoy it for you are unique and special in a way that no one else is and that’s what'll get you your best friends and even more strong relationships with others, never be afraid to show your real self.  Our school gives us endless opportunities to do so, such as our subjects, our performing arts programme, our sports, houses or whatever other extracurricular activities there may be. The opportunities are almost endless. Don’t be afraid of sharing your interest to gain more knowledge, or sharing your love for music, or to grow and show your house spirit or to show to others your dedication to a sport within our school. Be not afraid to make the most of these years, for you’ll remember them for the rest of your lives. That’s it, just be yourself and shoot for the stars, which by the way is the insignia in Latin we all carry on our uniform right below our shield.

If I was asked to sum up this speech I would say that in order to make the most of our school years we just need to believe, become and be ourselves.

Thank you very much.
