An interesting experiment in the Afternoon Bunnies classroom!!
Investigating fruits and vegetables.

One day The Afternoon Bunnies found a tiny, dried up pumpkin in the vegetable garden and decided to open it up to see what was inside.  It was full of small, circular objects called “seeds”.

Since the children were very interested to know why it had seeds in it and if all fruits and vegetables had seeds too, we organized an investigation on some fruits.

First of all we took a look at the fruits we had and tried to guess or remember if they had seeds or not, and if they had only one, a few or many, and what size.  Most of us thought bananas and strawberries had no seeds.

Then we split up in small groups to find out for ourselves.  We cut them open carefully and looked through our magnifying glasses.  Guess what? We all found seeds! Some seeds are tough and we don`t eat them, like the ones in the plum or the apple, and some seeds are tiny and we eat them without noticing, like those in the banana or the kiwi.  Even the strawberry had seeds, but on the outside!

Later, of course, we enjoyed a delicious fruity snack!
